Introduction to Animation

Hi everyone! Bonjour!

In this post, I will be sharing with you about animation.

So, what is animation?

Animation is the process of creating the illusion of motion, change through a sequence of still images, frames, still objects or drawings and bringing it to life by displaying them rapidly. This can be done by hand-drawing each frame, using computer software, or both.

Animations can be found in various forms of media, including films, television shows, video games, advertisements, educational materials, and even in web content. These dynamic visuals and the illusions of movement offer a unique way to tell stories to people, convey information, and way to engage and entertain audiences.

Animation process requires a team of artists, animators, concept artist, storyboard artists, script writer, voice actors, and technical experts working together with strong understanding of timing, movement, storytelling, and visual aesthetics to bring their animations to life.

There are different types of animation and there are 12 principles of animation, which I will be sharing in my future post.

Before that, let's look into the historic of animation.

Figure 1: Émile Cohl
In 1908, Émile Cohl (Figure 1), a French cartoonist and filmmaker become one of the earliest people that explore animation. Cohl created one of the first animated films using traditional hand-drawn techniques titled "Fantasmagorie".

Figure 2: Winsor McCay

Winsor McCay (Figure 2), an American cartoonist, an animator and one of the most influential figures, produced an animated film "Gerties the Dinosaur" in 1914 that showcased innovative and storytelling techniques.

Figure 3: Walt Disney

In the 1920s, Walt Disney (Figure 3) co-founded the Walt Disney Studio, and he introduced synchronized sound and full-color animation film "Steamboat Willie" in 1928, in this film it featured the debut of Mickey Mouse.

Overall, animation has been evolved since then. There are lots of software and applications created to make it easier for animators nowadays. Animation also continues to amaze audiences worldwide with its unique characters and imaginative world that sometimes audiences can't even expect.

I guess that's all for this post, let's talk more about animation in my future post. See you all again soon in the next post.

Love, Peach💕
